It has been raced since 1923 near the town of Le Mans in France. Dubbed the Grand Prix of endurance and efficiency , Le Mans is one of the most prestigious auto races in the world. What makes it unique is the balance that needs to be struck between speed and endurance. A team of drivers race for 24 hours without sustaining mechanical damage while managing the cars consumables. Drivers sometimes race for over 2 hours straight before swapping to a new driver so the physical and mental toll on them is tremendous. Why is Le Mans so important to race fans? This is subjective of course, but I can speak for myself and perhaps a few fans out there. There are stories of three generations in a family all going to Le Mans on a sort of spiritual journey to connect as a family. For fans of auto racing, you can t help but be impressed by the feat these drivers and their race teams accomplish. The physical and psychological toll involved in a 24 hour race is mind boggling.
